Aerial Gymnastics Info

In aerial gymnastics classes, students learn skills and tricks on:

Aerial Silks

The most popular aerial apparatus! One long piece of strong nylon fabric. The silks are rigging to the ceiling with 2 separate tails coming down to the ground. Some tricks include: spin, fly, climb, footlock tricks, giantX, knot straddle, mermaid, cocoon, and more!

Hoop

Also know as lyra. It is similar in size and shape to a hula hoop (but steel!) and hung from the ceiling by two ropes. Some tricks include: spin, fly, cone, pull over, man and lady in the moon, star, birds nest, zipper grip knee hang, and more!

Trapeze

A bar apparatus that spins and swings. It is connected to the ceiling by two ropes. Some tricks include: spin, fly, cone, under bar splits, ice skater, angel, birds nest, and more!

Hammock

Also known as aerial sling. Similar to aerial silks, hammock is a fabric apparatus made of strong nylon. However, instead of coming all the way to the ground, it hangs about 3-4 feet off the ground. Some tricks include: spin, fly, inverted straddle, gazelle roll down, vampire drop, fishy, twirly bird, and more!

Why sessions?

Our classes run in series (session) blocks, aligning with the school year. We have a Spring session (January to May), Summer session (June to August), and Winter session (August to December). You register and commit to 1 weekly class for the duration of the session. Classes are an hour for beginner students and 1.5 hours for Intermediate+ students.

Why sessions? Drop in classes are difficult. In other words, when there are new students each week skills need to constantly be repeated. Therefore, we teach in a session based format. This allows for progressive instruction. Above all, with sessions, student’s learn more, and quicker! We offer 3 make up classes per session.

Aerial Gymnastics Leveling System

New students will start in a beginner session. In other words, students need to learn fundamental skills before progressing to higher levels. After that, students are often ready for an intermediate class. We have a few levels of intermediate classes, and then an advanced level. Typically, students spend 2-3 sessions in each level to learn the skills and terminology.
