Adult Student Company

Adult Student Company

At Aerial Cirque Over Denver, our Adult Student Company is designed for Level 2+ aerialists seeking a clear, flexible pathway to grow as performers and aerial artists. The program is structured into three distinct sessions throughout the year, allowing you to engage at your own pace and build your skills progressively.

Each year culminates in a flagship theatrical production every January, providing an exciting opportunity to showcase your progress, deepen your artistry, and connect with our vibrant community.

Please note: Exact dates for each session may vary. This new three-session program structure will take effect starting February 2026.

Flexible Participation to Fit Your Schedule

You can choose to participate in one, two, or all three sessions annually—no pressure to commit to everything at once. For those who want the full experience, registering for all three sessions upfront earns a discounted rate. This flexible model helps reduce burnout, supports varied schedules, and encourages long-term growth.

Program Sessions

Session A: Conditioning

February – May (4 months)

Build your technical strength and foundational aerial skills across multiple apparatuses — trapeze, lyra, silks, sling, rope, and more. This session also introduces physical theater and ground movement to enhance narrative-driven performance.

All Session A students participate in the May Adult Student Showcase at no extra cost, where you can opt to perform a solo, duo, or group act. Later session students may drop in if space allows (standard drop-in fees apply).

Session B: Development

May – August (4 months)

Focus on performance skills, creative collaboration, and early choreography work. This is when the show’s theme and storyline for the January production are selected. Participation during this session influences casting decisions and ensemble dynamics.

Session B attendance is optional for the show, but priority casting is given to students involved in multiple sessions. Drop-in options are available for Session C students, subject to space.

Session C: Production

August – January (6 months)

Rehearse and refine the January flagship production. Roles are thoughtfully assigned through soft casting, with attention to individual strengths and contributions to the story. While not all roles include solos, every performer plays a vital part.

Rehearsals focus on choreography polish, character development, and stagecraft to prepare for a high-quality theatrical experience.

How to Audition

Applicants must submit video auditions for one vertical apparatus (silks or rope) and one horizontal apparatus (trapeze, lyra, or sling). You may also include optional specialty auditions such as duo, fly pole, straps, contortion, acro, tumbling, dance, or flow arts. These additional submissions are not required but may open opportunities for expanded creative and performance placement.

In your submission, please note your primary apparatus(es) in your aerial practice. Submitting secondary or specialty auditions can broaden your in-class and performance options but will not affect your primary audition results.

Each audition video must include one original, self-choreographed sequence of approximately 90 seconds, performed three times to highlight different aspects of your artistry:

  1. Neutral – Clean lines and classic technique, without character elements
  2. Character – Movement that expresses a clear character or emotion
  3. Contrasting Character – A distinct shift in tone or energy from your previous take

Your sequence should reflect your personal style and creative voice—there is no “wrong” way to move.

Each apparatus sequence must include:

  • A ground-to-air transition, beginning at least three feet from the apparatus
  • One ascent (such as a mount, climb, or roll-up)
  • One inversion performed in the air
  • Rest or balance positions that demonstrate control in standing, seated, and balanced shapes

If you’re not quite ready to audition for the Company—or are looking for a different type of performance experience—there are plenty of ways to take the stage. Our Student Showcase program offers inclusive opportunities for all levels to perform, explore creativity, and gain stage experience in a supportive environment.
