Youth Contortion classes at Aerial Cirque over Denver. Denver & Centennial locations
Contortion and flexibility training for kids and teens in a safe, supportive environment.
Youth Contortion & Flexibility Training
Aerial Cirque Over Denver’s youth contortion classes help young students build flexibility, strength, body awareness, and control through progressive contortion training.
From first splits and backbends to more advanced flexibility skills, students learn how to develop their abilities step by step with experienced coaching and small group classes.
Contortion Classes for Kids & Teens
For kids who love stretching, bending, balancing, making shapes or performing flexibility feats, contortion offers an exciting way to develop both flexibility and strength.
Contortion is much more than just stretching. Students develop the strength needed to actively control flexible positions while learning proper technique and progressive skills. Classes incorporate conditioning, active flexibility, and focused contortion work rather than simply trying to push students farther into a stretch, which can potentially result in injury.
Students may work on:
- Side and center splits
- Leg scales and balances
- Backbends and bridge variations
- Backbend shapes and transitions
- Active flexibility and control
- Shoulder and back flexibility
- Forearm balances
- Oversplits and advanced flexibility skills
- Progressive contortion shapes and transitions
The result is flexibility students can control and use, whether they’re training specifically in contortion or applying those skills elsewhere.
Students do not need to already be flexible or have previous contortion experience to participate.
Beginner-Friendly Youth Contortion Training
Your child does not need to already have their splits or a backbend to begin.
Our youth contortion training develops the foundations that make flexibility skills possible: strength, control, body awareness, and technique.
Beginners learn foundational positions and flexibility exercises, while students with more experience receive progressions that continue to challenge them. Our contortion classes are intentionally small, with six or fewer students, allowing each student to receive individualized feedback, hands-on coaching, and personalized progressions.
This allows students to grow from where they are rather than feeling like they need to arrive at class already knowing contortion skills.

FAQs
Does my child need to already be flexible?
No. Students do not need to have splits, backbends, or prior contortion experience to participate. Our coaches offer progressions tailored to each student’s current skill level and abilities.
Are youth contortion classes appropriate for beginners?
Yes. Beginners can start by building foundational strength, flexibility, and contortion technique, then progress gradually into more advanced skills as they are ready.
What do kids learn in contortion class?
Students may work on splits, active flexibility, leg scales, balance skills, backbends, forearm balances, and other contortion skills that progress in difficulty based on each student’s experience and readiness.
Is youth contortion only for aerial students?
No. Contortion can be a great complement to aerial, dance, gymnastics, figure skating, and other movement-based activities, but students are also welcome to take contortion simply because they enjoy building flexibility and body control.
